Many years ago, Darrtown resident Paul Everheart set aside 3.8 acres of subdivided land to use as a park. Everheart and the Darrtown Ball Association had an agreement that they could use the park in exchange for maintenance. As a result, the Darrtown Ball Association put in a ball diamond and a playground which they used regularly. However, over the years the cost to improve the park exceeded the funds of the association.
In 1994, Everheart approached the Township Trustees with intentions to sell the park. The Township purchased the land to ensure that the ball fields and playground were maintained. In 1994, the Darrtown Ball Association applied for and received a grant to improve the ball diamonds. In addition, in 1999 Milford Township received a $100,000 NatureWorks Grant to erect a picnic shelter, install a restroom facility, put in sidewalks, four dugouts, a basketball court, sand volleyball, and a security light. Also, in 2016, McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital | TriHealth spent over $50,000 to update the playground equipment. |
Originally attached to the Somerville School, this park was integrated into Milford Township in 2016. Using Township funds, plus funding from the Tyler Richardson Foundation, new playground equipment was purchased and integrated into the park. Additionally, the township received a NatureWorks Grant to install handicap equipment, sidewalks, and a black top. Milford Township received grants from the Oxford Community Foundation and Butler Rural Electric Cooperative to make further improvements to the park. In 2024, Milford hopes to receive a NatureWorks grant to erect a shelter.
