Township Cemeteries

Milford Township has four cemeteries, three are still open for burial. These cemeteries date back almost 200 years and have been the final resting place for generations of families, including many veterans of the United States military service from the Revolutionary War onward.
Collinsville Cemetery - OPEN FOR BURIAL

1438 Trenton Oxford Rd, Oxford, OH 45056

This cemetery began in 1811 when Matthew Richardson deeded two acres of land to the Presbyterian congregation for "meeting house and burying ground.” The church was a 30 ft. by 40 ft. frame building located in the northwest corner of the property and became known as the Collinsville Presbyterian Church.

In December 1875, the cemetery was enlarged with the purchase of seven acres at a cost of $2,125.00. Today the Collinsville Cemetery consists of nine acres with the Milford Twp. trustees in charge of its upkeep. There are around 1,200 burials.

Darrtown Cemetery - OPEN FOR BURIAL

3271-3325 Shollenberger Rd, Oxford, OH 45056

This nine and one-half acre cemetery was originally laid out in 1806 by Thomas Cooch and Mr. Markle, each donating land totaling to one and one-half acres for a Baptist cemetery. The daughter of Thomas and Hannah Cooch was the first burial – September 6, 1806. This land was eventually deeded to the trustees of Bethal Church.

On August 9, 1876, three acres of land, adjacent to the original cemetery were sold to the Milford Township Trustees by David and Emma Shollenbarger. This land is considered the "Old Section" of the cemetery.

Five more acres were added to the cemetery on December 18, 1831, when R. Kirk Mee sold land to the Milford Township Trustees.

Somerville Cemetery - OPEN FOR BURIAL

207 Walnut Street, Somerville, OH 45064

This twelve-acre cemetery started in 1832 when Jacob F. Rowe and Benjamin Bourne donated an acre of land to the Presbyterian Church for a cemetery. The first person buried in the cemetery was John Perry, son of Daniel and Anda, who died April 26, 1832, at the age of nine years, ten months, and fourteen days. The earlier settlers are buried in Preble County, Ohio.

In 1874 the cemetery was transferred to the trustees of the Somerville Presbyterian Church by the Seven Mile Presbyterian Church. Sophronia Bourn sold four acres of land to the Milford Township trustees in 1875. Another seven acres were added to the cemetery when William T. Hancock sold land in 1931.

Scott Cemetery - CLOSED FOR BURIAL

4470 Eaton Rd, Hamilton, OH 45013

Located on Eaton Road near State Route 127, Scott Cemetery is on the east side of Eaton Road, one mile south of Route 127. This very small cemetery was the family cemetery for the Scott family who settled in Milford Township in 1803. The first burial was that of John Scott who died in 1810 at the age of 82. His wife, Rebecca, died in 1813 at age 79.
